SAFETY
Safety is embedded in all we do. We act safely in our operations because our team members, communities, and customers matter to us. We are committed to everyone returning home safely, every day, while providing safe and reliable energy to our nation.
Starting on Day One
Our holistic safety program is designed to protect our people and ensure safety training and compliance. Employees start their commitment to safety on day one, and it is a vital part of their employee experience every day after that. New team members participate in extensive safety training and onboarding programs. We hold daily JSAs and provide weekly Toolbox Talks, so our team members stay current on safety trends, know how to spot and respond to hazards, and talk openly about safety.
Staying Safe on the Road
Given our fleet size, vehicle safety is important for our employees, customers, and communities. We are proud that our Preventable Motor Vehicle Accident (PMVI) is lower than the industry standard, and we continue investing in dash cams and telematics solutions that can help our team members adopt safe driving habits and prevent or reduce automobile accidents.
Supporting Material Reuse & Recycling
We are committed to recycling at our office locations and in the field. On our projects, we need less equipment and carbon-intensive materials thanks to our more efficient processes, and we recycle or reuse material from projects when possible. For our vehicles, we recycle fluids from routine maintenance, tires, tracks, and metal.
Our team members actively participate in recycling, too. We collect recyclable aluminum, paper, plastic, and electronics at our office locations and encourage employees to bring in their personal recycling to keep it out of landfills. Each year, we recycle approximately 184 tons of paper, 5,600 wooden pallets, 283 tons of scrap steel.
Managing Water Mindfully
We are on the frontlines helping our customers with vital water and wastewater solutions, including replacing harmful lead water services and overflowing sewers that pollute natural water sources. Using modern construction technologies and our proprietary methods, we enable our customers to ensure water sustainability and security for the communities they serve.
ENVIRONMENT
We strongly believe in the stewardship of our natural environment, and that it is our responsibility to protect and preserve it for generations to come. This is why we provide solutions that accelerate the reduction of methane and carbon emissions while enabling more sustainable processes for delivering essential utilities to our communities.
Driving Emissions Reduction
We aim to reduce our emissions every year, while we help our customers meet their emissions goals. We have several initiatives underway to minimize the environmental impact of our vehicles. Through the Idle Time Reduction program, we reduced vehicle idle time by 35.53% in 15 months starting in January 2021. As we optimize fleet routes and assess alternative fuel options, we have also reduced our gasoline usage by 376,901 gallons during the same period. Watch more about our Idling Reduction program, click here.
Investing in Innovation & New Opportunities
Our customers rely on us to update their aging pipelines with modern, safe, and reliable systems, while limiting how these solutions impact the environment and communities. Partnering with our sister companies, Hydro-X II and Versiv Solutions, we offer innovative solutions to customers on our projects.
Hydro excavating solutions from Hydro-X II use various soft dig techniques to minimize the potential for pipeline dig-in damages. Importantly, these techniques also help minimize environmental impact by reducing the amount of carbon intensive fill materials and protecting communities and sensitive environments against unnecessary disruption. Learn more about Hydro-X II here.
Cross compression is a process by which natural gas is compressed and recycled back into the pipeline as an alternative to venting, flaring, or blowdown during pipeline maintenance, repairs, and installation. We partner with Versiv Solutions to help mitigate methane emissions and minimizing community impact in repairing pipelines. Learn more here.
PEOPLE
People are what matter most to Miller Pipeline. This is why we empower our team members, suppliers, customers, and communities to play leadership roles in advancing a more inclusive, respectful, and prosperous world.
Fostering Diversity and Inclusion
We believe in the dignity of all human beings and that diversity — be it race, ethnicity, religion, orientation, gender, age, background, experience, or any other quality that makes each of us unique — adds depth and value to our team. We believe in an environment where every team member is included, respected, and safe to share their thoughts and opinions. Discrimination and injustice have no place in our culture, our offices, or our job sites.
Empowering Our People
Our people are helping us build a better tomorrow. We invest in opportunities for our team members through competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and training and development opportunities, including leader training and tuition reimbursement available for all employees. We have an employee recognition program called Catch ONE to recognize our employees submitted by peers, managers and community members.
Giving Back to Our Communities
Our team members support each other and the communities where we live, work, and play. Through the Employee Care Fund, we distribute an average of $90,000 a year, which comes from employee donations, to help team members in need. They are also very active with volunteering and giving back, including building the first all-electric home for Habitat for Humanity in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and traveling to Colorado to help restore communities devastated by the Boulder County wildfires.
Encouraging Supplier Diversity
Our commitment to diversity extends beyond our own operations. We are cultivating relationships with partners through our Supplier Diversity Program, which helps increase minority-owned business participation both in the industry and the regions where we do business. We have helped startups in Indiana, California and Kentucky, and we own a stake in CH Barnett, a minority-owned construction company in Indianapolis.
INTEGRITY
Integrity is at the core of our company, starting with conducting business ethically and with unwavering honesty. We do what’s right, even when no one is watching.
Centering Ethics & Compliance
We are committed to doing the right thing every time, even when no one is watching. Our teams approach every job with an honest, transparent, and hardworking attitude, so we meet our customers’ goals with quality results and extraordinary service. Through our Business Code of Conduct program, we make certain our employees and anyone we work with understand and adhere to the same uncompromising commitment to ethics and compliance.
Protecting Data Security & Privacy
We recognize the importance of maintaining high standards when it comes to protecting our digital assets and our customers’ data. Our cybersecurity program is threat intelligence-driven, and our security team continuously monitors the threat landscape to understand new and emerging vulnerabilities, cyber threats, and threat actors to ensure our cyber controls and safeguards remain effective.
